Details from remodeling the living/dining room

Hello!

Maybe you've spied this little lamp in my last post. This is one of the creations I did while my time-out

.

I bought a simple white lamp for small money and painted the lamp stand in colors that matches the new look of my living/dining room.

Another little change in my last post were the chairs. They've got a new dress, too.

Before I went to work they were covered with brown velorisch fabric and that didn't match the new room. Over at Dawanda I found a fabric that matches better. It's printed allover with sand dollars.

Because the upholstery was still ok, I simply pulled the fabric over it. So I can turn back if I like.

Lights for the raised bed

Hi there,

hope you all had a great May Day.

Like I told you in my last post we improved our selfbuilt raised bed with some boards and additionally with solar lights which we found at rossmann drug store.

This is what it looks like at day

and at night.

We will see what comes up next at our garden.

26 paletts, 10 cubic meter dirt and a little time

Hi Y'all,

hope you'll had a nice Easter. We had a very nice one and followed by a few days off.

Today I want to show you our latest project, which was totally hubby's idea. At first I was not convinced but I must confess: Good idea, darling! 💖

It's not finished yet, but I can't wait to show you.
What do you do, if you have 26 palettes, 10 cbm dirt and a little time? No idea? You build a 15 meter raised bed.

On Tuesday Hubby digged out our box trees and put them in provided containers, so we could stow them in the shed over night because the weather forecast had predicted Frost and I didn't want them to freeze. 

While Hubby was digging in the dirt, I had to paint all the 26 palettes with wood preservative. 😒

On Thursday we built the bed.

While we were building the bed, somebody tipped off a big heap (10 cbm) of dirt in the yard.

On Friday we filled the dirt into the new bed and planted back the box trees in place.

And because it is more convenient to pick them there, the strawberry plants have also gotten a new home.

As you can see, the edge isn't that nice. 😕So there will be boards soon. 😊
Step by step our garden becomes more beautiful. But for now, I'm totally happy with it.

Happy to be home again

Yoo-Hoo!

Today I have you some big news *drum-roll*: I finished our entrance (for now). Can you believe it? It only took half a year.

Back in August last year we started the renovation of our entrance and there was only one thing left on the to-do-list:

• find/make new wall arts

A few weeks ago we installed these little nightlights with motion detector, so we don't have to switch on the ceiling lights at night, to avoid stepping on the cats.

Finally I found a Floral-Ornamental Border that Hubby and I like, both. I didn't paint the border, as usual. I cutted it out from vinyl with the silhouette and sticked it on. Because we used non-woven wallpaper it is sooo easy to remove the stickers without residue.

And a symbolic picture for all of our beloved cats.

Cat-TV

Welcome back!

Since we first bought our house 5 years ago we had an old TV as a"barn find". We often talked about what to do with it. We tried to find another good home for this buddy, but no one was interested in adopting this sweetie. So we decided that we will keep it and give it the chance for a totally other kind of life - as a cat tv.

This is what it looked like when we found it at the barn.

After hubby had removed all the electronic components I did a hard but successful job with sanding.

Then I painted everything new in dark brown and white.

Unfortunately we couldn't save the adjustment buttons. So we will have a look at the flea markets in the area, next time.

For the bottom I upholstered a chipboard with volume fleece and cord fabric.

To make it easier for the cats to adopt the new furniture, we laid in a blanket that has already been accepted by them.

Hope you all have an as compfy place as our cats to stay warm and cozy when autumn starts.

Entrance finished

Hi Y'all!

Today I can report that there were 3 things from our Entrance-to-do-List are already done:

• find and install new coat hooks
• find/make new wall arts
• find a new mailboxslit
• install a lot of trimming

We found this coat rack at the flea market last week

It was only 7 Euro. We also bought a smal can of paint for 3 Euro. I sanded the rack and repainted it matching the new hardware.

Finally we found a soloution for our mailboxslit too. We bought a VALJE cupboard at IKEA. We shortened it in depth and I decorated the door like I did at the hall stand a few years ago.

The stability has also been tested by Baghira. He loves all thing boxes.

So there is only one thing left on the List: 

• find/make new wall arts

One million unfinished projects

Hi there,

do you missed me? Here I am again.

Since we've been back from my cousins wedding, it feels like we have 1 million unfinished projects. So I think this will be a post about our unfinished works.

While I'm crocheting many more dragons, I wanted to do something else in between, for not going mad. So I hope to show you another quilt, soon.

Next thing is that Hubby and I digged a hole into our green last weekend.

We hope that it will be a fire pit next weekend. I will tell you the whole story in one of my next posts, when the soreness has subsided.

Another construction site is our entrance. There were still a few open points on our to-do-list:

• find and install new coat hooks
• find/make new wall arts
• find a new mailboxslit
• install a lot of trimming

So you can imagine that there will never be boredom at our home.

Entrance renovation - Update

Hi Folks,

last week I told you about our entrance renovation and that there were still some things that needed to be done.

Today I can report that 2 things are already done:

• Update the hardware
• find and install new coat hooks
• find a matching curtain rod 
• find/make new wall arts
• find a new mailboxslit
• install a lot of trimming

We will see, what comes next.I still have the goal that everything's done until Christmas.

Although we had 36°C, we had a nice day on Saturday. We went to a unique western town in the Harz. It's called Pullman City. 

I think next week you'll have to do without me, because we have an invitation for my cousins wedding this weekend. So it's time for party and not for crafting, sorry! 

Entrance renovation

Hi Y'all!

For some time I have blogged nearly every week regularly, I've now exploited that I only wanted to blog if there is something really interesting here. I currently have some demands for the dragon, which I crocheted and so I'm still busy crocheting dragons. In order not to go gaga, I have to do something else in between every now and then. Last weekend we had a bigger project on the go.

It's been nearly 2 1/2 years since we last change something at our entrance. So it was time to change something. I hated the walls, simple white ingrain wallpaper, since a while. I decided that I wanted something totally different. I bought non-woven wallpaper for the first time and now I'm totally in love with this kind of wallpaper. It's super easy to put them onto the walls. I was able to do this all by myself. But step by step.

Friday evening we decided that is was time to pull down the old wallpapers. It was really a mess. Although we had applied a primer on the wall, the wallpaper went down pretty bad. But after 2 hours it was finally done.

Saturday I spend about 20 minutes to smooth the walls with sandpaper, to get rid of the last wooden spots from the ingrain wallpaper. Then I started paperhanging. In the afternoon I had papered, as far as I could because Hubby hasn't take down the wardrobe. So I had to stop for the day until Hubby came home. (Fine excuse to break because my arm was really hurting).

On Saturday evening he took down the wardrobe and on Sunday he helped papering the rest of the room. In twos, we went even faster. And after an hour or so we were able to build up the wardrobe again. 

Yesterday I started painting the white walls. I wanted to paint the walls in an light grey or beige. Hubby picked out the color (velvet gray) and I was not a fan of the color he had choosen. When I opened the bucket I found out that the color is really thick (not the thin broth you often get when you don't buy the expensive color). It was really easy to process and I was totally surprised about the product. After a short drying time I realized that the color has a very nice matt look and matches the brick wallpaper really good. Our entrance starts to look really nice. Sorry, for being grumpy, about your color choice, Hubby!

There are a few things to go for

I know, i know it sounds a lot but I'm convinced that we'll have all managed until Christmas (I don't say what year).

Coat hook - make over

Hi Folks!

Since my last post I'm working on a few more dragons. And because I can't always just crochet, it was time for a quick and easy make-over.

I bought this coat hook the other day for no special reason.

Now I decided that it could hold our dishcloth that lived at the oven handle and that was not ideal.

So I separated the knobs and the stars and masked 2 stars with masking tape. Then I went outside to spray paint the stars and 2 of the knobs with spray paint I had from earlier projects (knife block refashion, bread bin refashion).

When I assembled the coat hook again it totally fits our kitchen.

Bedside lamp make over

Hello there,

today I have a new make over for you. Wanna know the story of this pretty little lamp?

I had this lamp for years and with time it really got ugly. I thought about to give it a make over for a while.

So, I gave it a try. I covered the shade with some fabric scraps left over, from former projects. 

I painted the bottom of the lamp with mirror paint I bought a while ago. 

I think the result is quite presentable. It looks much nicer now. What was your last make over? I would like to hear more about it.

Jeans cat bed

Hi Folks,

like I told you last week, I was sewing for the kittens. Now that I'm done, I would like to show you what I've done.

Cats love to lie on our laps. So I have sewed the legs and waist of some old jeans, filled them up with fiber fill and folded them like sitting cross legged.

I was inspired by this pin over at pinterest 

The cat beds are tested and approved by my own kittens.

They can be purchased at 2nd Summerparty of Hand und Pfote Lohfelden e.V. Hope they will be well liked.
